North Central’s Hispanic Ministry offers numerous volunteer opportunities. The major activity for serving in this ministry is the adult English classes. These classes are offered on various schedules throughout the year. (See the Hispanic calendar.) They provide a great opportunity for members of the church to be involved in community outreach.
Though many people think they have to speak Spanish to serve in this ministry, that is not the case. Almost everyone can find an area of interest for service from teaching English classes and conversing in English to helping supervise kids and teaching them Bible stories in English. During a typical class 15-20 different volunteers work together to help all work smoothly.
We encourage you to become a part of this ministry. It is possible to volunteer for a single activity, once a week, once a month or each time the classes meet during a session lasting a couple months. Training is provided to help you serve more effectively. In addition to the service opportunities available through the ESL program, we are always looking for people interested in reaching out in friendship to Hispanics. This may be as simple as showing a personal interest in them and their family, helping in a need such as accompanying them when visiting a doctor or other service provider, helping their children with their homework or being there when an emergency arises. We welcome bilingual volunteers who participate in the activities, lead Bible studies, share in the worship time or make in-home visits.
By serving as a volunteer with the Hispanic ministry you will gain new friends, learn about other cultures and see people grow closer to Christ. We guarantee that God will bless you in your service for Him!!
