What Are You Listening To?

Posted by Lynn Utley on

I am, generally speaking, a positive person and am truly grateful to God for everything.

But, there are times that I just simply get exhausted from the "messaging" that occupies my own mind and that is everywhere in the world.

You know, the voices of others and your own sometimes doubting voice, can be louder than our heavenly Father's voice. And if there is one thing we need to do as believers in Jesus Christ, it is to listen to the voice of our FATHER.

So, the information below is NOT original from me but it was something someone shared with me years ago and represents a comparison of what we sometimes tell ourselves versus what God's promises are to us. Just take a look to see if anything resonates and perhaps take a minute to re-read God's "messaging" to you and me through His word.

OUR THOUGHTS

GOD'S PROMISES

I feel all alone.

I will never leave you or forsake you. Hebrews 13:5

I'm afraid.

I have not given you a spirit of fear. 2 Timothy 1:7

Nobody really loves me.

For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son ... John 3:16

I can't do this anymore.

I can do all things through Christ ... Philippians 4:13

I can't forgive myself.

If we confess our sins he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins ... 1 John 1:9

It's impossible.

What is impossible with man is possible with God. Luke 18:27

I'm worried and anxious.

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7

I can't figure things out.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding ... Proverbs 3:5

It is likely that you’ve seen a comparative list like this before.  And while this one is not an exhaustive list, I hope it provides a simple reminder. Because when we get into a habit of listening to anyone more than God and His voice sharing His promises, then perhaps it's time for us to rethink who we are listening to?
