Adult Education

For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword … Hebrews 4:12a

Our adult Bible classes are designed to serve the dual purposes of providing study of God’s Word as well as regular opportunities to meet people and make friends. We encourage you to visit more than one of our Bible classes and find the one best suited to your needs and interests. We believe that active participation in a Bible class is an important step toward being a very real part of the heartbeat of North Central.

Classes meet on Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m.
Classes meet on Wednesday evenings at 7:00 p.m.
(after a short devotional in the auditorium.)

Current Sunday morning class offerings for Summer Quarter 2008:

Class Title: Spiritual Disciplines, Teachers—Randy & Joel Harris
The Christian life is a disciplined way of living. As Paul says in Romans 12:1-2 ”... present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship …” This class will concentrate on studying what has come to be called “Spiritual Disciplines” and how to incorporate these disciplines into our daily lives. The class will discuss these spiritual disciplines and how they help us to live a disciplined life and how we can be drawn closer to God, Christ, and the Spirit.

Class Title: Extreme Makeover, Home Edition, Teachers—John & Debbie Brehm
Likely to a greater extent than we dare to admit, many of our family and parenting priorities are influenced more by popular culture than by the truth found in God’s Word. This discussion class will explore ways of discerning what motivates the decisions we make with respect to such priorities. Central to this will be exploring the question, “What do you want your legacy to be?”

Class Title: The Promise, Teacher—Kay Williams
How do “all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to this purpose?” God’s promises are not magic wands that make problems disappear, but God-given assurances that every circumstance will turn out well for those fully committed to Christ.

Class Title: Tabitha Arise, Teacher—Sherry Evens
Open to any textile-created items that are used for our benevolence ministries. This class meets during regularly scheduled class times, and the same lesson is repeated during the second worship service at 10:45 am. Devotions and group prayer are part of our class. See our creations on the rack in the Family Hall!

Current Wednesday evening class offerings for Summer Quarter 2008:

Class Title: The Power of a Praying Woman, Teacher—Dawn Beaty
Prayer is powerful, but do you know how to pray for yourself? In this class we will learn how to trust God moment by moment with the concerns of our heart and discover the awesome power that prayer will release in each of our lives.

Class Title: 1 Thessalonians, Teacher—Gerrit deBoer & Don West
In this study we will look at the first of two letters that Paul wrote to “the church of the Thessalonians.” In studying this letter we will attempt to understand why the letter was written, to whom and by whom, and why God made it a part of the New Testament. Paul sums up all the joys and glories of the return of Jesus a major theme in the book by saying “and thus we shall always be with the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:17)
