I Kings 18-19
After his dramatic victory over the prophets of Baal on Mount Carmel and the miraculous end to the famine that had plagued Israel, Elijah flees to the wilderness to escape Jezebel’s murderous intentions. Alone in the desert, feeling afraid and abandoned, he asks God to take his life. But God has other things in store for him in the wilderness. In this moment of fear and despair, God nourishes Elijah through an angel and reveals himself through a faint whisper. Elijah’s own roller-coaster experience encourages us to ask, where can we hear God’s faint whisper in the anxiety of our current moment?
